We are proud that thirteen Rock School dancers competed in the USA International
Ballet Competition. This elite competition occurs once every 4 years.
It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for both pre professional and
professional dancers.
The USA IBC is a two-week
“Olympic-style” competition where tomorrow’s ballet stars vie for gold,
silver and bronze medals, cash awards, scholarships and jobs. It can be
a stepping stone to a dancer’s career. The audience is filled with
company directors; many dancers leave with contracts. The USA
International Ballet Competition has become known as a Festival of
Dance.
Of approximately 100 dancers, selected worldwide for this competition, 13 were from The Rock School. We are tremendously honored to have thirteen of our students competing at this level.
Jackson 13 dancers included Ashley Baszto, Michaela DePrince, Jeanette Kakareka, Regina Montgomery, Ka'imi Cambern, Derek Dunn, Esteban Hernandez. Naoki Makimura, Miguel Montoya, Oliver Oguma, Gabe Shayer, Yukihiro Tamura and Joan Sebastian Zamora.
Of these 13, Derek Dunn won the Bronze Medal for the Junior Mens Division and Esteban Hernandez won the Jury Award of Encouragement in the Junior Mens Division.
We are very proud of all 13 Rock Students who competed on this level. See you in 4 years!
